Optical Dispensary

Asian Eye Institute’s Optical Dispensary complements its Low Vision Rehabilitation Service. Most of its patients with serious low vision conditions are referred to the dispensary. It also offers a wide-range of products that address specific needs of individuals, of different ages and lifestyles:

  • Corrective eyewear (for both children and adults)
  • Contact lenses
  • Low vision devices
  • Occupational or protective eyewear (for basketball)
  • Sports eyewear (for golf and swimming)
  • Sunglasses

It also carries the newest lens technology, in terms of the material and coating. We can combine different quality lens coatings anti-glare, scratch resistant, fog resistant, anti-reflection, photocromic, polarized and ultraviolet (UV) protection.

Asian Eye only offers products that meet the ISO standard of quality. It also maintains a very high intensive quality control for eye care:

  • Eyeglasses and/or contact lenses are only dispensed to the patient based on the prescription of the specialist
  • Patients with prescription from other eye centers are required to have an eye exam with Asian Eye before availing eyewear at the optical dispensary.

Orthokeratology or Ortho-K is a non-surgical procedure that temporarily addresses nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and presbyopia (the difficulty of reading small text). It makes use of specially designed contact lenses that gently reshape the cornea (the clear surface of the eye), enabling the patient to achieve clear vision for at least 24 hours.

These contact lenses are worn for at least six (6) hours during sleep and removed upon waking up. Since these are made of highly oxygen-permeable material, these reduce risk for eye infections, allergies and dryness. However, these are not recommended to patients who have chronic infection on the cornea, eyelids or sclera (white part of the eye).

Ortho-K contact lenses work best in people who have mild to moderate eye grade and are not yet ready or qualified to undergo LASIK surgery. These can also be worn by people who are interested to take jobs that require good vision and like to engage in contact sports like boxing and martial arts.

A thorough screening is necessary to know if patient is qualified to wear Ortho-K contact lenses. During the screening, the Contact Lens Specialist assesses that patient’s lifestyle, shape of the cornea and amount of correction needed. The appropriate is also determined to ensure that the contact lenses fit the eyes of the patient.

Asian Eye offers the Ortho-K contact lenses at a reasonable price. The package includes:

  • Screening
  • A pair of contact lenses
  • A trial and fitting session
  • Follow-up consultations up to 6 months post-fitting
