Michelle Quinto Araneta, M.D.

Dr. Araneta graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Science from University of Toronto, Canada. She then obtained her medical degree from the University of Santo Tomas (UST), and her post-graduate internship and residency training at the Cardinal Santos Medical Center. During residency she won first place (Clinical Category) in the inter-hospital Residents’ Research Paper Contest held by the Philippine Academy of Ophthalmology. She completed her Cornea and Refractive Surgery fellowship in Asian Eye Institute under Harvard-trained Dr. Robert Ang. She was recognized again by the Philippine Academy of Ophthalmology when she won second place in the first Fellows’ Research Paper Contest. Afterwards, she obtained her Cataract and Refractive Surgery Postgraduate Diploma with distinction from Ulster University, United Kingdom.
Dr. Araneta is a diplomate of the Philippine Board of Ophthalmology. Apart from being an active researcher and speaker at various conferences, she has also published and received recognition for various scientific papers. She is a member of the Asia-Pacific Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.
Alex U. Pisig, M.D.

Dr. Alex Pisig specializes in adult retinal disorders, which include diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, and retinal vein occlusions. He obtained his fellowship training in medical retina at the Harvard Medical School – Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and Joslin Diabetes Center, where he trained under the world-renowned Harvard professors Dr. Lloyd Paul Aiello and current Diabetic Retinopathy Clinical Research Network (DRCR.net) chair Dr. Jennifer Sun.
While doing this fellowship, he was involved in research works and national clinical trials, presented in international conferences, and received numerous awards, including first place in the New England Ophthalmological Society Annual Sanford Hecht Academic Poster Contest and the Joseph M. and Eula C. Lawrence Retina Research Foundation Travel Grant Award at the ARVO Annual Meeting.
Prior to this, he also completed retina research fellowship at the John A. Burns School of Medicine, University of Hawaii, USA. He is a graduate of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, and finished ophthalmology residency training at Cardinal Santos Medical Center (CSMC).
He is currently on academic leave for another retina (surgical) fellowship at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada.

Dr. Quilendrino obtained her medicine degree from the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay
Memorial Medical Center (UERMMMC). She then completed her medical internship, residency training in
Ophthalmology, and medical and surgical fellowship at the University of the Philippines-Philippine
General Hospital (UP-PGH).
A diplomate of the Philippine Board of Ophthalmology (PBO), she is also a member of local and
international organizations, such as the Manila Medical Society (MMS), Philippine Medical Association
(PMA), Philippine Academy of Ophthalmology (PAO), Philippine Society of Cataract and Refractive
Surgery (PSCRS) and Euretina.
At present, she serves as a consultant at Asian Eye Institute and EyeSite, a teaching consultant at the
Quezon City General Hospital (QCGH) and a Retina Fellowship Training Officer at Asian Eye.

She is a diplomate of the Philippine Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of the Philippine Academy of Ophthalmology and Philippine Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

Dr. Gualberto Dato finished his fellowship training in Pediatric Optometry and Orthoptics at the Children’s Hospital Boston, Harvard Medical School. He is a Board of Trustee and Assistant Secretary of the Ophthalmological Foundation of the Philippines.

Dr. Jesse Caguioa completed his clinical fellowship training in Low Vision Rehabilitation at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School. He is the current President and Founding Fellow of the Philippine College of Optometrists and is a member of the American Academy of Optometry and a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.

Dr. Sharlene I. Noguera graduated magna cum laude in Bachelor of Science in Psychology at the University of the Philippines, Diliman. She then took Doctor of Medicine at UP Manila. She underwent Ophthalmology Residency training at the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, UP-Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH) and was Chief Resident. She topped the Philippine Board of Ophthalmology Diplomate Examination. She also had her Cornea and External Disease fellowship training at UP-PGH. She then went to Apollo Hospital, Hyderabad, India for further fellowship training under world-renowned Dr. Rajesh Fogla, specifically on Lamellar Corneal Transplantation. She is presently a Cornea and External Disease consultant at the Asian Eye Institute. She is an active member of the Philippine Cornea Society (PCS) and the Asia Cornea Society (ACS).

Dr. Michelle Lingao completed her pre-medical and medical degree at the University of the Philippines (UP) – Manila, where she was named as the Most Outstanding Intern in Ophthalmology. She then obtained her fellowship training in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at the University of the Philippines – Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH) and Ocular Genetics at the Will’s Eye Institute in Philadelphia, USA. She ranked 1st in the Ophthalmology Diplomate Board Examination given by the Philippine Board of Ophthalmology and is certified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) in the US.
Dr. Lingao has contributed several published scientific papers and has given presentations to local and international conferences. At present, she is a clinical associate professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science, University of the Philippines College of Medicine – Philippine General Hospital and handles medical students and ophthalmology residents in training.
Edgar U. Leuenberger, M.D.

Dr. Edgar Leuenberger is one of the directors of Asian Eye Institute’s Glaucoma Service. He obtained his fellowship in Glaucoma at the Massachussetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School. A contributor to the advancement of the ophthalmology industry, he has received multiple awards for his researches and has been invited as resource person in various speaking engagements.
At present, he serves as the director of Asian Eye’s Glaucoma Fellowship Program, President of the Ophthalmological Foundation of the Philippines (OFPHIL) and an Assistant Professor at the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center (UERMMMC).
Franklin P. Kleiner, M.D.

Dr. Kleiner completed his medicine degree, internship and residency training at the University of the
Philippines (UP) Manila. After which, he pursued fellowship trainings in Ophthalmic Plastic Reconstructive
and Orbital Surgery at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center (UCMC) in Ohio, USA, where he
trained under Dr. Dwight Kulwin and Dr. Robert Kersten, and at the Kantonsspital Winterthur Augenklinik
Switzerland, under Dr. Martin Hatt.
He has held several notable positions, including former President of the Philippine Society of Ophthalmic
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (PSOPRS), former Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology of
the Rizal Medical Center (RMC), former Chief of Oculoplastics at the UP-PGH, and clinical associate
professor at the UP College of Medicine. He is also a founding fellow of the Asia-Pacific Society of
Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (APSOPRS).
In 2016, Dr. Kleiner was chosen to deliver the Liborio Mangubat Memorial Lecture, the highest award that
the PSOPRS can give its members. He is currently the Chief of the Oculoplastics Service at Asian Eye
Institute.

Maria Imelda Yap-Veloso, M.D.

Dr. Maria Imelda Yap-Veloso finished her medical school and residency training in ophthalmology at the University of the Philippines College of Medicine-Philippine General Hospital. She completed her glaucoma clinical fellowship at the Harvard Medical School-Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary, Boston, Massachusetts. This was followed by a post-doctoral research fellowship at the Harvard Medical School-Schepens Eye Research Institute. Dr. Yap-Veloso is Past President, Philippine Glaucoma Society and Board of Trustees, Philippine Glaucoma Foundation. She is Co-Director of the Glaucoma Service at the Asian Eye Institute, Makati City, Philippines. Dr. Yap-Veloso is also Clinical Associate Professor at the University of the Philippines College of Medicine and Consultant of the Glaucoma Service, Sentro Oftalmologico Jose Rizal, Philippine General Hospital. At present, she is Vice- Chairman and Head of the Training Committee of the Department of Ophthalmology and Chief of the Glaucoma Service, Rizal Medical Center. She has authored numerous local and international publications and has given several lectures both locally and internationally in glaucoma.
Amadeo A.S. Veloso, Jr., M.D.

Dr. Amadeo Veloso is the director of Asian Eye Institute’s Retina Department. He obtained his fellowship in Retina and Vitreous Disease at the Schepens Eye Research Institute, Harvard Medical School. He has authored several pioneering research publications in local and international journals. He is a founding member of the Vitreo-Retina Society of the Philippines and Vice-President and Medical Director of the Ophthalmological Foundation of the Philippines.
Emerson M. Cruz, M.D.

Dr. Cruz completed his degree in medicine at the Our Lady of Fatima University (OLFU), and his internship and residency training at the Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center (JRRMMC). He obtained his fellowship training in Cornea and Refractive Surgery at Asian Eye Institute, under multi-awarded and Harvard-trained Dr. Robert Ang. He also pursued fellowship training in Cataract and Refractive Surgery at Laservision Eye Institute in Athens, Greece, where he was mentored by another Harvard-trained specialist and a professor at the New York University School of Medicine, Dr. A. John Kanellopoulus.
A diplomate of the Philippine Board of Ophthalmology (PBO), he has been active in conducting research. He has published several scientific papers, has conducted presentations and has been recognized by local and international organizations, including the Philippine Academy of Ophthalmology (PAO), Philippine College of Surgeon (PCS) and American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO).
Dr. Cruz is a former consultant for the Multimedia Library of the International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS), AAO; and is currently a consultant at Asian Eye and EyeSite and the chairman of the Institutional Review Board (IRB).
Mary Jocelyn U. Ang M.D.

Dr. Mary Joceyln Ang is Asian Eye Institute’s anesthesiologist. She has authored several local publications, and is a contributing author of the Handbook of Pediatric Bedside Procedure, used by medical practitioners for the management of pediatric patients.

Dr. Robert Edward Ang is a senior consultant and the Head of the Cornea and Refractive Surgery Services at the Asian Eye Institute. He completed his ophthalmology residency training at the Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH) Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, and undertook fellowship trainings in Glaucoma and Cornea and Refractive Surgery at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Ang’s passions include teaching fellows and residents as well as performing research studies on presbyopia treatment, intraocular lens technology and glaucoma devices. He was a clinical investigator for the Supracor presbyopic LASIK algorithm, Transepithelial PRK, Kamra corneal inlay, Staar extended depth of focus ICL, Acevision scleral microporation, Acufocus IC-8 small aperture IOL, Finevision Trifocal and Trifocal Toric IOL, J&J Symfony EDOF and Synergy trifocal IOL, Envista Toric IOL, WIOL polyfocal IOL, Harmoni modular IOL, Bimatoprost SR implant, Hydrus microstent, and the Glaukos Inject, Supra and iDose glaucoma devices.
Apart from authoring several book chapters and international publications, Dr. Ang is also a key resource speaker at international conferences. He has received several Best Paper awards from different congresses: five (5) from the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS), one (1) from the Asia-Pacific Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (APACRS), and one (1) from the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO). He received the Certified Educators Award from the APACRS in 2013, and the Top Gun Instructors Award from the ASCRS in 2017. In 2018, he was voted as one of the Power List 100 by The Ophthalmologist Magazine, and in 2019, he was awarded with the International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS) Presidential Recognition Award by the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO).
